That the climate crisis is an existential crisis is no understatement. Seeing that climate change effects are catastrophic, the world has embarked on an urgent mission to address and mitigate these effects.

If the pandemic has taught us anything at all, it’s that clearer air, cleaner water, and healthier ecosystems are achievable if we act now. To this end, applications are now open for the Lead2030 Challenge for SDG 13 to Address and Prepare for a Changing Climate.

Do you have bold solutions that can reduce the impacts of climate change and/or empower others to act on climate change? If yes, this challenge might just be for you.

About the challenge

The Lead2030 Challenge is in line with Deloitte’s ambition to address climate change through ecosystem engagement, by supporting scalable youth-led solutions that do any of the following:

  • Reduce the impacts of climate change, and/or empower others to act on climate change
  • Address root causes of the issue; demonstrate the ability to drive impact and potential to scale
  • Collaborate with others to accelerate or broaden the impact
  • Facilitate opportunities for collective impact, by engaging a wide range of stakeholders
  • Utilize innovative approaches
Focus Areas

The solutions should drive impact in at least one of the following areas:

  • Actively contribute to carbon reduction, carbon sequestration, and/or the transition to clean, renewable energy
  • Support initiatives that develop job skills, improve educational outcomes, and provide access to opportunities within the green economy
  • Promote meaningful collaboration across stakeholder groups such as communities, businesses, and governments, to advance climate change solutions and resilience measures
  • Support initiatives that develop job skills, improve educational outcomes, and provide access to opportunities within the green economy
  • Limit the negative human, environmental, or societal impacts brought on by climate change
Benefits

In addition to a US$50,000 grant from Deloitte, the winning solution will receive a one-year mentorship period from a team of Deloitte professionals.

The mentorship team will work to help the winner accelerate their solution based on the needs of their initiative or organization, including:

  • Business strategy
  • Best practices for data collection
  • Monitoring and evaluation
  • Product design
Eligibility criteria

Your solution must:

  • Align with the Lead2030 Challenge
  • Be founded by a person between the ages of 18 – 30
  • Have a well-structured time horizon, identifying key stakeholders and beneficiaries, and proposed outcomes that are reasonable and well thought out.
  • Have a measurable positive social impact, which could be job creation or skills acquisition
  • Be financially viable and able to achieve efficiency and survive independently through the resources generated and/or the investments and donations they attract.
  • Have potential to perform as well or better after expanding in scope or size and/or being replicable in other regions.
  • Rely on proven or readily available technology if is relevant to the solution
