With the global effects of climate change, the green economy will soon become an inseparable part of our lives.
Interestingly, Africans, like the rest of the world, are gradually moving into environmental consciousness in terms of harnessing natural resources, reducing waste and pollution.
For instance, the drought in Cape Town has taught residents and businesses to use water more wisely. In the same way, electricity load shedding has made all consider more efficient ways of using energy.
In light of this, GreenCape and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom have launched the maiden edition of the Green Economy Awareness for Decision Makers series.
As the name implies, the learning series is designed to enlighten decision-makers in the government, business, and investment ecosystems on green economy practices.
Leveraging resources in moderation and lobbying for environmentally sustainable resource use will allow for a greener, more resilient economy.
Since the spectrum of green operational opportunities is immense, decision-makers are not always aware of the latest innovations and are at times faced with unfamiliar obstacles in implementing these.
As such, GreenCape’s workshop series will enhance participants’ understanding of the opportunities for, and challenges to, the adoption of clean/green solutions in their contexts.
The series further seeks to accelerate green economic innovation and growth by showcasing the methods of overcoming barriers to green innovation.
What else will be discussed during the event? Based on the energy module, the program will look at the sub-sectors of utility-scale energy, small-scale embedded generation (SSEG), and electronic vehicles.
Together, participants will discuss the opportunities and barriers for increased economic and social value.
Participants of the module will learn the following:
- Energy and changing economics;
- Electricity in South Africa;
- Emerging Energy Opportunities;
- Opportunities and barriers to small-scale embedded generation;
- Low-income electrification; and
- The exciting new sector for electronic vehicles and sustainable transport.
The Green Economy Awareness for Decision-Makers workshop series is set to hold virtually from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm on July 8, 2021.
